PROFILE: (Top)

Caritas Cambodia is an official social development arm of the Bishop's Conference of Cambodia and is a member organization of Caritas Internationalis ROME.
Caritas Internationalis, an International Confederation of 154 National Member Organizations engaged in humanitarian and development assistance in 198 Countries and territories is an organization of the Roman Catholic Church, endowed with juridical status and with Head quarters in the Vatican City.
Caritas Internationalis enjoys a general consultative status with the United Nations, being one of the nongovernmental organizations officially recognized by the UN Economic and Social Council. As such, Caritas Internationalis is officially represented by its International Delegates to the different UN offices and agencies: UN Head quarters New York, UN Geneva, FAO, WRP, UNESCO, UNICEF, and ILO. Caritas Internationalis has official responsibilities to the UN Regional Economic Commission for Africa, Europe, Latin America, Western Asia, Asia and the specific.

HISTORY OF INVOLVEMENT IN CAMBODIA: (Top)

Caritas Cambodia was registered with Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990. It started working in Boeung Tumpon Phnom Penh Suburb and Battambang. Over the years, its has extended it activities to Kompong Cham, Kompong Thom, Siem Reap, Kandal and to more districts in Battambang, covering 203 villages.

PROGRAMME:

1- Development Program (Top)

Caritas Cambodia implements development programs with community participation, need-based intervention, promotion of self-reliance and the ability of the community to be sustainable. The activities include providing community drinking water facilities, road constructions, irrigation canals, check dams, water gate, etc.

2- Empowerment Program (Top)

The feeling of powerlessness, crushed confidence and an inability to envision and plan for a more positive future. Empowerment Program of Caritas Cambodia aims at bringing awareness of social-reality and motivating people to act collectively. People's structures are built, people become partners of Caritas Cambodia in the development process, equal opportunity is provided to the community in decision-making, capacity building of community, and People gain confidence through this process.

3- Economic Program (Top)

Providing assistance for increasing agricultural production activities, animal husbandry, other income generation activities and capacity building are being provided by Caritas Cambodia. These activities help them to increase income, redeem themselves from moneylenders, cooperation and concern for other members. It also helps the poor to have better health and social status.

4- Welfare Program (Top)

Providing services to meet immediate and basic needs, such as formal education, curative health, institutional support, drinking water, sanitation facilities, culvert, water gates, road construction, primary schools etc...

5- Vocational Training (Top)

In vocational training, it is providing technical skills for the youth (both boys and girls) in different trades with the component of value education. Providing job oriented technical skills on painting, sculpture, auto mechanic, electrical, electronic, Air-condition, beautician course, secretarial skill, Computer Repairing and Community Development course, with the component of value education to the youth in difficult circumstances. Helping them to set up their own entrepreneurship and to form youth forums in different provinces.

6- Comprehensive Health Program (Top)

Caritas Cambodia provides curative, preventive, and promotve health facilities in the rural areas. Bringing health care as close as possible to where people live and work, espacially women, children and elders.

Caritas Cambodia works through Peoples Organizations namely Village Development Associations. As of now, Caritas has formed and strengthen over 250 Village Development Associations in 6 Provinces.

7- Home care program for people with HIV / AIDS (Top)

To improve the qualities of the life of PLWHA (people living with HIV/ AIDS) and their families, Caritas Cambodia provides comprehensive home based care, creating awareness of the menace of HIV/ AIDS.

8- Relief and Rehabilitation (Top)

Caritas Cambodia initiated programs and activities to take care of the victims of natural and man made disaster such as floods, drought, fire, communal, riots, relief program with community participation.
In times of natural disasters, Caritas Cambodia would extend its support to the victims with a long term development strategy.

9- Center for Child Mental Health (Top)

Caritas Cambodia supports clinics and community based child and Family Mental Health Programs to enhance the quality of life of children and their families, helping children in difficult and precarious situation. This center also assists with rehabilitating psychologically disturbed and mentally disabled children and their families.

10- Rehabilitation for Blind Cambodians (Top)

Caritas Cambodia support programs to help Blind Cambodians to improve the quality of their life and to prevent avoidable blindness. It provides community based rehabilitation and to trains Eye Doctors and Nurses for the government.
