Statement of SIGNIS Asia, Manila Philippines September 17, 2002

As member of SIGNIS ASIA the Media Communications project of the Catholic Church in Cambodia has taken on this STATEMENT of SIGNIS ASIA

OUR IDENTITY

"We are Christian communicators, who through life and witness enter into dialogue with people and cultures through social communications. As member of SIGNIS ASIA our C.S.C. National Center of the Church in Cambodia shares this same IDENTITY"

VISION (goal)

To build a community of communities in the Spirit of Jesus Christ through Social Communications

MISSION (objectives)

  • To build an environment of communication in all Asian cultures and communities
  • To foster communal harmony through interfaith and intercultural dialogue in the Asian multi-cultural societies.
  • To use communication media to empower the poor and help fight dehumanizing customs, structures and systems.
  • To be agents of advocacy to uphold the dignity and human rights of children, youth and women.
  • To foster dialogue with communication professionals on media ethics and social issues.
  • To participate in the creation of public opinion to improve the quality of human life.

NEEDS AND CONCERNS

  • Preparation of communication pastoral plan

  • Defend, recognize and appreciate the rights of media professionals
  • Team up with NGOs and individuals advocacy
  • Information exchange and AV resource sharing among members and commissions
  • Undertake co-productions and joint marketing
  • Hold periodic surveys to identify people's communications needs
  • Network with secular and mainstream media
  • Identity and train young talents from the community for main stream media
  • Meaningful celebration of World Communication Day for greater awareness
