CATHOLIC SOCIAL COMMUNICATIONS NATIONAL CENTRE The C.S.C., Catholic Church Cambodia, is a member of SIGNIS WORLD SIGNIS is a non-governmental organization that includes members from 140 countries. As the "World Catholic Association for Communication", it brings together radio, television, cinema, video, media education, Internet, and new technology professionals. VISION: "The good news must reach every section of society. So the Church also gives priority to media communications in order to keep the three dioceses constantly connected and also to communicate to the world. The Church does not live for herself, but must be a sign for others. So we must use all the mediums to fulfill this purpose, for the call of Jesus to be heard." - Bishop Emile Destombes "What I tell you now in the gloom, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ears, proclaim from the housetops" (Matthew 10, 27) PRINTED MEDIA A monthly newsletter in the Khmer language: THE MESSENGER dealing with the social work of the Church in Cambodia and various Catholic NGO's. An annual calendar RADIO PROGRAMS A team of young Cambodians is making the program "MODERN YOUTH", in Khmer language. The target of this weekly radio program is the young people. The purpose is to motivate young Cambodian people to reflect about different subjects that are of their common interest. It is a program of opinion. In each program it is included a Christian perspective, as well. SONGS' CDs Production of CDs with Christian songs in Khmer language. The director of this program is Fr. Sri Pramong Werachai. One CD was published in the year 2003. You can hear the songs and to download the lyrics in Khmer language by clicking here WEB-SITE PROJECT "While the Internet is only in its early infant stages of research and possibilities, we, as Catholic communicators, need to be imaginative for exploring its full potential for proclaiming the Good News and promoting dialogue among all peoples". Sr. Angela Ann Zukowski, MHSH The C.S.C National Centre has launched this website, in English, Khmer and other Western languages, as a way to enlarge the action of the Church inside the country and for the information of many Cambodians and non-Cambodians abroad. There are various internet service providers in Cambodia offering relatively cheap, but lower quality internet access. Faster access is available but is not reliable and is very expensive. New technologies are available in Cambodia; however, most of it is cloned technology. Our project is to continue in the process of learning, making and updating of the official website of the Episcopal Conference of Cambodia. Our team had its first experience of website production during an intensive course on website in October, 2003, on the occasion of the presence among us of some young women of SIGNIS Asia, while they were making their own website. After this a group of Khmer young men continued their website studies. VIDEO PRODUCTION The use of audiovisual means is very much an urgent need of the Church in Cambodia since till the present we are just using the traditional methods in catechesis as well as in general education programs. The classification and reproduction of existing videos in Khmer language and the production of new ones in two-three years term, will be a good support to the catechetical programs and secular education projects of the three dioceses. This project will enlarge the scope of the Church in fulfilling her mission of the proclamations of the Good News. We helped the SIGNIS WOMEN PROJECT in the production of two VIDEOS in the month of OCTOBER 2003. The video documentary on the "revival of the Catholic Church in Cambodia" has been of great help for our plan to let the Catholic Church's active presence in Cambodian Society be known outside as well as inside the country. Objectives: To gather, classify and reproduce existing videos in Khmer language, to be used in the different education programs in all fields led by the Church in the three dioceses and by the Catholic NGOs. To create a team of VIDEO PRODUCERS. To produce new videos in order to support the Catechesis plans in the three dioceses, as well as other projects of formal and informal education (religious and secular) of the dioceses and of the NGOs.
