UCIP MEETING ENGAGES YOUTH

Young Communicators from Cambodia and Laos

BANGKOK (UCAN) - The International Catholic Union of the Press (UCIP) kieked off its Oct10-17 World Congress in Bangkok with a Convention of Young Journalists.

About 300 participants from 86 countries and territories attended the conventio. India had the largest number of participants -about three dozen.

The second UCIP World Congress held in Asia had the theme: Media Challenge amidst cultural and religious pluralism - For a new social order, justuce and peace.

The first part of the congress, the two-day World Convention of Young Journalists, started on Oct. 11.

6 Catholic young journalists from Cambodia and one from Laos attended this congress looking to engage their countries into the new wave of communications and journalism that is spreading so quickly all ove the world. The Catholic Church in Cambodia is concentrating efforts in order to build its Apostolate of Media Communications. A group of lay communicators in different field is receiving nowadays training and formation. At the end of the congress, aftert the ceremony to give the awards to many journalists from all over the world the young Cambodian journalists manifested their admiration for the good organization of the congress and hope that some day they would reach a good level to invite them to their country.
