Cambodia: New Humanity runs a Care Centre to welcome the disable people.

Kompong Chhnang (C.S.C): “My name is Dy” a 20 year-old man said with the hard sound to CSC report. Dy has a mouth paralysis, since he was born, but his physical is usual. If we ask him, he has spent a long time to reason the question. Dy comes to the Center everyday to receive food, physiotherapy and Khmer literacy.

The centre run by New Humanity Cambodia named “Day care centre” located in Kompong Chhnang province in the Apostolic prefecture of Battambang, about 150 Kilometers to the north of Phnom Penh.

Christina, Italian Lay Missionary, a commissioner of the center told CSC that all the children here have the diseases since they were born as Dy. The symptom of their illness is very strong which they can not control themselves in the capacities of writing and speaking. She added “This symptom can make them become the disable walking in the future. They have to sit on and move by the wheel-chair. If we give them the certain food and physiotherapy everyday they could live longer.”

There are 16 disable children in the Center and they have different illness, like mental problem, Muscular dystrophy, spastic (Mouth paralysis), and malformation of hands, contracture of legs and other diseases. The centre also helps the other 11 disables people in the villages who can not come to the center to teach the Khmer literacy, hygiene educate, and do the physiotherapy.


“Because of his mental problem so when we called him, he always clapped his hands, also while he heard the noise, he feel entertainment. Lem Heng, 34 year -old a personal assistant of the Day Care Center of home serving, explained about the Symptom of Soun Ly. “he can sit and move after we do the physiotherapy everyday.” Heng Said with a hand doing the physiotherapy Soun Ly.

Larp Sy, 35, a widower with seven children, her sixth daughter was contracture of lags when she was born told CSC report that after bring to center her daughter can walk little by little. Larp Sy express with the excited vice “I am so happy and thanks to the Day Care Centre for helping my daughter, sends her to school, and support my family”. Larp sy hopes that her daughter will be a good student and outstanding student.

To run this project more effectively, “Day Care Centre” has a monthly meeting with parents to educate them how to take care and to know more about motivation to their children. Christina, Italian Lay missionary, a commissioner explained to CSC report. What the most important for this project is encouragement to disable people. Because they thought that no one loves them and they are alone. So we have to make them belief that there are a lot of people loves and support them. This point we need to start with their parents. Christina added.

“Day care Centre” was set up in 2006 by New Humanity Cambodia. Seven teachers were sent to training in different organizations: La va la School, Russia hospital of metal illness, Rabbit School and training from other local organizations, and physiotherapy training with Italian Doctor. “Day Care Center” welcome to all disables people from 1-35 years old with seven staff are serving. The centre spend about 17000 $ per year.
