WE SHALL NOT SIMPLY SPEAK ABOUT OUR FATIH,

Bishop Emile Destombes

(C.S.C) -- In fact, the Church in Cambodia is celebrating its 450th anniversary. The purpose of this celebration is to give thanks to God for the gift of faith and for the many Cambodians that have known Jesus Christ through the life of the Church.

Tough in Cambodia there are not many Christians we can count a good number of small Christian communities throughout the country. We have three Church Jurisdictions: Phnom Penh, Battambang and Kompong Cham which are united under the direction of the Holy Spirit. Moreover, the presence of Christianity in Cambodia started here 450 years ago through the Catholic Church that used to send missionaries to all nations to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ. Therefore, in the Church, we shall not simply speak about our faith but we must be true witnesses by sharing the love of God.

As a result, the Catholic Church in Cambodia has strengthen its presence in society in different field, especially concerning the attention to poor students through programs of education, such as university students’ centers and by supporting poor sick people through several medical centers, such as Aids centers. It means, in the Church we shall not only speak about our faith, but to act according to it. I feel this is the most important fruit of this 450th anniversary.
