Our Mission
"The
Church in Cambodia, -faithful to its universal mission- proclaims the
Good News of Jesus Christ to the Cambodians. Jesus Christ is also for
the Buddhists. We believe that Jesus Christ has come to achieve the personal
and collective hopes of the Khmer people. The role of the Church is not
to convert people, but to bring, modestly, a contribution to Buddhists
in their religious experience." - Fr. François Ponchaud
"Our
first priority is the youth, especially those who are dynamic in the communities.
We make efforts on how to group them, how to give them better education.
We want to encourage the youngsters so that they have confidence in themselves
and build their own future." - "The Church is furthering the
outreach to all villages, especially the poor and sick people. In each
village community, we have a small group of Christians, who pay attention
to their neighbors especially the poor ones. Taking care of the sick people
is beyond our capacity as an individual. Being Christians we are able
to sympathize, we understand their problems." - Mgr. Antonysamy
Susairaj
"The
Church should integrate Khmer culture in all her activity and life. We,
Khmers, have a rich culture and we, in the Church, shall use it for the
people to better understand its teachings." - Fr. Un Son
"The
Church wants to be with the people where they are, so we are learning
about their way of life and their culture and learning how to inculturate
our faith. We are trying to celebrate the liturgy in a Khmer way and looking
forward to bring the Gospel values to society from a Cambodian perspective".
- "Landmines
are still a prevalent problem, the Catholic Church has joined the efforts
of all other groups in raising concern. Also high on its priority list
is the rehabilitation of landmine victims. These children are suffering
from physical disabilities and we want to serve them and to know them,
to give them the chance of a new life at the same time thank them. We
are learning a lot about the life of Cambodians." - Mgr. Kike Figaredo
"There
is also the challenge to strengthen the Catholic communities through education
of faith in practice and in celebration. We encourage and help them to
live normal Christian lives." - Bishop Emile Destombes
